Transfer the file using 7zip and consider using an external drive for backup.

I was hoping for an alternative solution. One disc got damaged and was ruined. I’d consider a solid-state drive, but A) I’m out of funds and B) I prefer not to rely on external storage devices. The main goal of keeping data on discs is to make room on my internal drive.

Yes, we will back it up twice and provide two sets of disks.

M-discs cost a lot upfront, but they can endure for a thousand years... Haha! I’ve learned that Blu-ray discs might become available in the future too.

It seems a future M-DISC solution for Blu-Ray is likely. But if you're concerned about scratches on DVDs, opting for archival quality or M-DISC is the best choice. Regular DVDs degrade over time because the plastic naturally breaks down, even when stored properly. High-end Archive Grade discs can last decades, but M-DISC offers the most reliable protection for DVDs.

I'm not focused on discs lasting a decade. I doubt I have M-DISC technology. I do possess a Blu-ray burner, though it seems the blank discs are now much less reliable. I could consider using that instead. The issue with rar spanning is that files meant for one disc often need to span multiple ones. Losing a disc means you're likely to lose half of what came before and after it. Still, you usually end up with a single 700 MB archive. I'd like the spanning system to be more intelligent.
