That's correct, an extender functions similarly to a bridge. An AP doesn't need to be wired, though in practical home and busy installations it often is.

Mesh networks enable wireless devices to move effortlessly between nodes. Access points can be arranged in this manner (my setup), while repeaters are typically configured similarly.

Hey, I understand you're in the military and had a situation where you were separated from your unit. Are you still interested in finding an extension or something similar?

I've been using this setup for years, but recently I switched to a Unifi nanoHD—truly the best choice ever. It finally delivers steady 65MB/s file transfers from my laptop to the NAS, while OpenWRT was barely managing half that speed. I can copy files faster in the bathroom than I could with the same router/AP nearby. As expected, the nanoHD has the shortest range among their lineup, highlighting just how big the difference is between budget business gear and consumer devices.

Business equipment is often built slightly beyond specifications, which enhances its performance.

After switching to the Unifi Controller, I was able to change the channel width to 160Mhz, which allowed me to achieve a speed of 81MB/s.

Thank you for your assistance. For now, I'm opting for long cables as a quick workaround. I still want a reliable option for devices like tablets and phones that can't be wired directly.

Canada's actions regarding the military always align with what the United States does. I'm still trying to understand this.
