Hey everyone, I just upgraded my system from a X670 to an X870E motherboard (ROG Strix X870E-E). Everything seems to work fine except the boot times are really slow. It powers on quickly, but it takes about a minute to fully boot into Windows after POSTing. This is unusual compared to the previous boards, which usually booted in seconds. I recorded a video and posted it on YouTube to illustrate what I’m experiencing.

I think it started up quickly before the new motherboard was installed.

It seems like you haven't noticed anything unusual, and it hasn't been a problem for you. You've already checked common fixes like removing USB devices, resetting BIOS settings, and reinstalling Windows during a motherboard swap. Since you didn't reinstall the operating system, it's possible that drivers or chipset settings could be contributing to the issue.

It seems unlikely a motherboard swap is major. I've handled full system replacements without issues. I'm not very familiar with these settings, but I think adjusting options like "Fast boot" in BIOS or Windows might help.

Maybe verify your RAM first. You might want to reinstall Windows, and using an extra drive could help you test it. Edited August 14, 2025 by leclod

Consider disconnecting any connected HDDs. For testing, you could remove all drives except the boot drive. The motherboard appears to require a specific device or it takes too long locating the boot drive. If that device is slow to activate, you encounter issues. Alternatively, the motherboard waits until it bypasses the slower drive and searches for another bootable one. If Windows fails to recognize new parameters from a recently installed motherboard and drivers, it may take time to determine the correct boot method. Installation might have left lingering environment settings, even after new drivers were applied.

Interesting, thanks for the support. I'll proceed with testing and let me know if I find a solution. As you mentioned, everything is working as expected, so I'll wait until my PC boots before making any changes.

Yep, I think I just have too many drives, I've removed some from my PC and already got my boot times down to under 30 seconds. Currently I have 4x4tb sata SSD in 2 raid 0 drives, 3 NVMe SSD's and two 20TB USB HDDs I use for backups. I unplugged the SATA drives and boot time instantly improved, so I think TudorF is on to something.

Yes, the boot device was set as the first priority to be the operating system drive.
