Hello, earlier I shared my experience with an i7 4790k and an Asus ROG Maximus VII Hero. Everything functioned smoothly until recently when I encountered slow posting times—about 20 to 30 seconds before the beep. That wasn’t normal before. I don’t recall what I was doing at that moment, but I remember taking out a stick from my PC to capture the issue, which helped confirm the problem. After that, my system became stuck at Q-Code D5. Once reset, it eventually booted but took a long time to respond. I’m hoping to connect with someone who has faced this situation or knows a solution. My CPU is overclocked to 4.7 at 1.325V, and I have two Hyper-X RAM kits (two at 1866 and two at 1600 running at 1600Mhz). I also use a SATA SSD with two RAID0 hard drives, so I want to avoid losing data during troubleshooting. Thank you very much, best regards, first3d
I’d begin by testing without mixing the memory. You might try reducing your CPU overclock and observe if it improves things. The D5 AMI BIOS says there’s no room for legacy ROM, suggesting the board may be failing and won’t get better. This comes from seeing the D5 error without a recent BIOS update, which makes me think you’re near the end of your options. Just remember, testing is still needed. Clearing the CMOS and removing mixed memory seems like a good starting point.
I changed the BIOS after installing the BETA 3503 and rolled it back to 3201 but nothing happened. Adjusting the overclock only prevents the PC from booting. The system displays an Overclock Failed message and presses F1 to enter BIOS. Once I powered on, the board stopped showing the D5 error and eventually restarted normally after a few seconds—though Windows took a long time to load, as if it were loading from an SD card rather than a SSD. CMOS was cleared multiple times during troubleshooting, and the battery was replaced. I still need to test the memory. My HP Microserver has DDR3 modules, so I might try swapping them out for comparison. If the issue is with that RAM stick, it could be the culprit. I’ll keep you posted on what I discover. (Maybe it’s just that one stick of RAM...)
Responding with a delay. System works but it takes 18-20 seconds to display the Asus ROG logo. I’ll attempt to connect all SATA devices. It could be an S.M.A.R.T check that’s triggering problems, possibly because one of my RAID0 HDDs isn’t functioning properly. I’ll update you as soon as I find something affordable like a Z87 or Z97 that isn’t an ASUS board. The CPU at 4.7Ghz is powerful—OC isn’t causing issues since it doesn’t affect performance without it.
