I’ve collected everything from the case and am currently conducting tests. I’ll update you once I’ve identified anything.
The issue seemed to be with the motherboard. I believe MSI should update the BIOS. After re-seating everything and swapping the RAM slots, the problem with cinebench was resolved but memory errors persisted. I managed to stabilize things by adjusting the VDDR_SOC value to 1.25V (or a similar offset). The PPT was at 88W, covering CPU and SOC power needs. The SOC was drawing more than necessary, but it remained stable at 1.25V. Regarding memory errors, I ran tests in prime95 with Expo off, but the problem might have been caused by the CPU or RAM setup rather than the software.
I'm really glad I stumbled upon this article. I'm facing the exact same issue with the same CPU and motherboard. I know it's not the RAM problem—I initially used the G.Skill kit, then switched to Kingston, and it only fixed my POST issues. I agree with your assessment; it's a BIOS-related power draw bug that causes lower frequency when under load. Changing the VDDCR SOC voltage didn't help me either. Right now, my solution is setting PPT to 100, which gives the same boost in frequency and temperatures as without RAM overclocking. I think the lack of discussion around this stems from newer non-X CPUs and the fact that the bug only shows up when PPT is restricted. It would be great if MSI addressed it.
