I own an iPod touch 4G that I've held onto since my mother stopped using it. I'm exploring whether, in theory, it's feasible to remove iOS and replace it with a customized Android version like Cyanogenmod. Even if current software isn't compatible due to hardware restrictions, could it still be possible to build a custom kernel for this device? It's just an interesting thought experiment.
An Android version for the original iPhone and 3G was available, but it’s likely outdated and won’t function with 4th Touch.
Android is built upon the Linux kernel. I asked this question to see if adjusting the kernel could allow running Linux on almost any device with a microprocessor, such as a camera.
