I've come across many discussions about memory speed, and it's understandable to feel puzzled. When I installed a system with 3200Mhz RAM, everything worked fine on my setup. The question is, what exactly is affecting performance? For instance, the MSI B450 Tomahawk max supports up to 4133Mhz, while my Ryzen 5 3600 uses 3200Mhz memory. The specs say 2x8 3600Mhz modules. What happens if the CPU can't recognize the 3600Mhz speed? Does it limit performance or cause issues? The term "System Memory Specification" refers to the maximum supported frequency, not necessarily the actual operating rate. I realized I might have overlooked that the base rate is 3600Mhz, while XMP activation in BIOS unlocks higher speeds. That makes sense now!

Ryzen 3000 typically runs at 3200Mhz by default. Speeds above that require overclocking from the motherboard. The combination of your motherboard and memory determines achievable performance. Often enabling XMP/XAMP settings works well.

Anything beyond 3200 is regarded as an overclock, typically requiring higher SOC voltage to reach 3600. For Ryzen 3000 models, they generally function well with a slight voltage boost, and it's recommended to use 3600 memory even if it's considered an overclock.

the storage isn't truly active—it's merely a highly efficient type of temporary space. the memory controller reads from it at a speed you choose (here 3600). the actual memory must support that frequency (which explains why you see ratings like 2666, 3200, 3600), and the CPU’s memory controller has to match that speed, while the motherboard must back it up for smooth data movement.

Your statement is mostly accurate. What you wrote is correct, but if a kit isn't in the QVL, it could mean they haven't been tested yet or it didn't perform fully. Either possibility is possible.
