dirt rally is a challenging experience without a wheel and pedal setup. the game accepts controllers but you're likely to face difficulties... forza apex is an excellent starting point. it's free and closely matches the forza titles on the xbone. other suggestions include assetto corsa, pcars, iracing (subscription required), rfactor 1/2 (heavy mod reliance), and codemasters' f1 series.
No suspension support available in Forza yet, plus the project cars are pretty bad. Assetto Corsa offers a much smoother driving feel.
DiRT Rally offers an outstanding simulation experience, surpassing DiRT 1-3 in quality. It pushes you to improve your driving skills until you master the game. This version provides near-perfect realism (based on real-world insights) and effectively showcases the difficulties of Rally. You may feel frustrated initially, but once you grasp the right techniques, it becomes incredibly satisfying.
Throughout the game's creation, many odd design decisions were made, such as the crowd-funding phase. If you spend time on the PCars forums, you'll notice the CEO of slightly mad is a hypocrite, and some forum members support him despite this. Moreover, they've already begun working on PCars 2 before finalizing the first version. In the end, the game turned out quite well, especially considering its impressive visuals thanks to CryEngine. Still, the team behind it seems overly cautious.
