Hello community, our home connection offers 200mbps from Comcast. On Steam and other sites I can download at 15-25MB/s, but it slows down any other online tasks on my desktop. Even when trying to open this forum while downloading, the browser fails to load pages. Once I stop Steam, the speed returns. We use a solid Wi-Fi 5 router with Gigabit Ethernet, and my desktop runs an Asus PCE-AC56 card. What solutions exist besides increasing the service speed to improve multitasking—browsing, streaming, downloading? Thanks!

Steam and similar platforms include download speed restrictions. Limiting updates or downloads to a specific amount, like 100mbit, might resolve your problem.

200 Mbps equals roughly 25 MB per second. This indicates your internet is busy during the download. You might want to turn on Quality of Service (QoS) on your router to help manage traffic and ensure smoother performance. If supported, this can prioritize other activities so downloads proceed more consistently. Alternatively, you could limit your download speed within Steam to prevent it from overwhelming the connection.

Since it's a wireless connection, the problem isn't related to Comcast. Are you using 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz? How many Wi-Fi networks are nearby? It could simply be caused by too many signals in the air.
