Exploration of gender and racial diversity within gaming spaces
What would help is addressing the situation calmly and respectfully.
It was great, and we'll say it. Thanks. I think the toxic atmosphere in many games is a big issue. On the topic of identity, does race or religion play a role in your choices?
Your initial remarks suggest the responses should steer toward a specific outcome.
I'm attempting to be thoughtful here. Perhaps I'm being too blunt. If you wish to express your concerns, feel free to message me directly. I've gathered information from peer reviews, blogs, and books on this subject. Yet, there are no voices sharing a national or educational stance who are actually part of the gaming community. This is frustrating and disappointing. I'm seeking insights from those who participate in games but aren't represented in mainstream discussions. As a woman, did you find it bothersome that most characters are male? Are you not interested in playing a game with only male protagonists? Do you feel uneasy when playing as a different race? When I play, I enjoy customizing characters to reflect myself or my emotions. This enhances my connection to the game world. I've also tried Play by Post RPG and worked on character development, though I've never explored gender identities beyond my own. I've played as FemShep several times in Mass Effect. I'm trying to understand the extent of this issue and possible solutions you might suggest. Please forgive if I seem insensitive. Labeling me as part of the problem isn't constructive. I'm not politically engaged, so discussing justice-related topics feels challenging for me already...
