Hey everyone, just wanted to clarify my original question. I might have misunderstood what I was asking. I’m mainly interested in in-game characters rather than streaming content. I care about how gender and race influence the experience inside the game. Does switching between genders or races affect how you feel while playing? Is it enjoyable to change your appearance for a character? I’m working on a university project and don’t plan to dive into broad discussions about gender or race in games. I’m aware of #gamergate but won’t revisit it. I’m seeking forums or communities where real gamers talk about these topics. I know female players often face harassment just for being women, and there’s a shortage of strong positive female and marginalized character representation. I’ve read some academic articles and news pieces on the subject, but I need places where actual players discuss this openly. I understand the challenges like feeling isolated or unable to fully engage due to identity issues. I’m interested in seeing what people who are actively involved think about it. I’ve been told to check Twitch forums, which I haven’t used before. Would anyone have resources I can explore? I’m looking for examples of games or developers that handle these issues well and those that don’t. Research suggests these problems hurt the community and player experience overall. This is just for educational insight—no intention to escalate anything quickly. I’d be glad for a private chat if anyone prefers not to post publicly. No need to share personal usernames. Thanks ahead of time. Ryujin

You're not sure how to reply, but you're a white woman who competes semi-professionally in Rainbow Six Siege. You rarely face hate except from your male teammates.

Some people face harassment while streaming. It's unclear why this is seen as a gender-specific problem. Many men view it as harmless, whereas gender studies experts compare it to serious harm.

This happens because regular women often face dislike simply for being women. Streamers with prominent cleavage and minimal gameplay tend to receive much more harassment. For details, check those two videos; the second builds on the first due to feedback and backlash against its release.

I located the first image I found on Google, though its resolution was quite low. It gives a general idea of what I saw.

You seem uncertain about your question. Could you clarify what you're referring to?

OP, you didn't have to say that you go to Uni, man. It's clear from your post. Try to relax. Anyway, no one is being harassed because they're a grill. It's because they have "the gals" on and the Twitch viewer isn't taking her nonsense seriously. They just act offended to get a reaction. Then donations start coming in since it must be tough being a pretty grill with her tits on stage, playing vidya games for everyone to watch.

The female streamers seem to lean more toward a transactional approach rather than genuine intimacy, essentially reducing it to a service. Clearly.
