I'm excited about the upcoming Civ game. Many players seem interested, though the Steam pre-load mentions running it with mantle support. What I find confusing is the constant negative feedback saying Civ 5 already runs smoothly at 60 fps on a decent card. With my average system and an AMD GPU, I expect big improvements later in the game. I believe mantle could mainly boost late-game AI performance, but I'm not sure how it would affect real-world gaming experience. What do you think?

Give it a shot and you'll likely notice a boost of around 15% in frame rate. The main contribution has been advancing the industry through improved APIs such as dx12 and opengl next.

General frame rates in DirectX usually aren’t a major concern for most systems, but I’m curious about whether Beyond Earth will include the same short, intense slowdowns during AI actions seen in Civ V. It would be interesting to find out if Mantle could address this issue.

Early players thought Mantle could have an impact in the later stages when each decision consumes significant processing power.

No clear CPU comparisons have been found; I don’t mind GPU stats when it comes to the mantle.
