Experiencing unexpected shutdowns on your Ryzen 5 5600X?
I encountered a situation where only Netflix causes my computer to freeze. In the background, other programs like Task Manager, Chrome, HWMonitor, Razer Central, Synapse, Steam, and the Topping USB Audio Controller are active. I can move the mouse briefly and sometimes interact with elements, but there’s no response. Restarting manually resolves the problem, after which everything functions normally. Checking Event Viewer shows no unusual activity.
My system specs: Asus TUF Gaming X570 Pro (BIOS 3001), Ryzen 5 5600X, G.Skill Trident Z RGB F4-3600C16D-32GTZRC, EVGA RTX3080, Lian Li Galahad 360, WD SN750 NVMe SSD, SeaSonic Focus GX Gold 750W.
I previously faced issues with DAZN and Disney Plus, which would force a restart upon starting any service. I also struggled with DOCP on RAM until updating to BIOS 3001. Random restarts during gaming or loading problems existed before, but those seem resolved now. Freezing occurred when running MoBo at default settings; after switching to a new 5600X, the issue vanished.
Stress tests on PBO2 with specific voltage settings passed. I plan to run OCCT to verify stability. Forza games ran smoothly without issues. I removed Armoury Crate and installed Aura Sync for RGB control. If needed, I might try new RAM or a different monitor, but I’d prefer not to. Some suggest low voltage drops might be the cause, though it only happens with Netflix.
I left my PC running nonstop during the holidays without freezing, so it’s unlikely hardware failure. Any suggestions would be helpful. Edited January 17, 2021 by bartolo1988 Added PSU + OS.
Yesterday it froze again. The problem seems to occur only when I'm watching it on my Asus VG27A screen. It's 1440P and 165Hz, G-Sync is enabled. I can stream Prime and YouTube without issues there, but Netflix doesn't work well on my BenQ GL2750H. I just switched my graphics card recently and don't recall this problem before—maybe it's related to the NVidia drivers. I was using an RX580 before.
This morning it froze once more. I just returned from work and the clock still showed 6:46am. It was 5:10pm when I managed to move the mouse, but it stopped afterward. After loading into Windows, it emitted a long beep followed by three short beeps. I believe this might relate to my RAM. I plan to check the latest BIOS for my motherboard first, then try different RAM options.
It looks like the system freezes gradually, making movement with the mouse difficult. The issue started often a few months ago and has been stable now. Some suggest removing NVIDIA audio drivers (which you've already disabled). I'm considering uninstalling NVIDIA Experience and installing clean graphics drivers without audio. However, I'm not very confident about this approach.
CPU: same model
Motherboard: MSI B550
GPU: ASUS 3070 Strix
I faced a similar situation while developing a new system. Because of the lack of Ryzen 5600x, I used a 3600 CPU for about two months without any freezing. Once I replaced the CPU, the issues disappeared. Back in December 2020, when I assembled ten Ryzen 5600x units at my workplace, no one experienced comparable problems. I’m not sure if it was software-related, so I’ll attempt to uninstall the latest version.
I've encountered the same problem before and have already tested various RAM modules and setups. I've even swapped out the motherboard at this point. Both my roommate and I use a 5600X, but he hasn't experienced any freezing issues. It seems the problem might be with the CPU itself.
I discovered several discussions indicating the AMD chipset drivers might be the root of the problem. I own an MSI board and their support site is experiencing some unusual issues where parts are inaccessible for a long time. I reached out to someone who provided a link to a functional page: https://us.msi.com/Motherboard/support/M...#down-bios. After installing the latest chipset driver from MSI, I’m hoping it resolves the matter.
I also face the same issue. Upgraded to an Asus B550 Rog F and a 5600X with 32gb of 3600mhz CL18 RAM. On the third day it froze while using Zoom, thinking it was the app causing the problem. I removed it but still experienced random freezes while watching YouTube or reading PDFs. The keyboard stopped working, the screen would freeze gradually (I could close an app to help), and after about a minute the mouse would stop responding. Restarting from the case is the only solution. My motherboard looks normal, stress testing the CPU and Memtest on the RAM shows no issues or errors. Chipset drivers are up to date and the BIOS is current (8/4/2021). Many people report this problem but few know how to fix it. It didn’t occur while playing COD with Discord open and Hwinfo monitoring temperatures, clocks, etc., which were normal, but after 10 minutes of closing the game (I played for hours) the PC froze again. I use the balanced power plan and the power slider is set to the middle. DCOP is active and the installed NVIDIA drivers have been cleaned as some suggested in various discussions.
I really don't understand what caused the problem. I tried a new CPU, but my old one works fine on another machine. I'm using a newer BIOS for my motherboard. I removed Armoury Crate and just kept Aura for RGB. The last time I faced an issue was about a month ago when I connected a USB drive and the computer restarted. I'm sure the BIOS updates made a big difference.
