Experiencing sporadic failures and posting problems?
I’m facing several problems with my PC lately. It seems they might be connected, so I’ll share everything clearly.
In summary:
1. Over the last couple of years, I’ve repeatedly shut down the system just by turning it off.
2. After replacing the mainboard recently, the PC won’t boot unless I perform a CMOS reset and it still crashes several times a week.
Specifications:
- Power Supply: be quiet! Pure Power 11 (700W)
- Mainboard: ASRock B650M PRO RS
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 8700F
- RAM: G.Skill Flare X5 DDR5-6000 (2x16GB)
- GPU: AMD Radeon R9 380 Series
- Operating System: Windows 11
Details:
I rarely shut down the PC, usually only during updates. In the past 1.5–2 years, I’ve shut it down less than 30 times. Two of those shutdowns ended in mainboard failure (the PC wouldn’t boot until the board was replaced). After the second mainboard malfunction, I upgraded everything—new board, CPU, RAM, and PSU. The old components remain: an SSD, a HDD, the GPU, and the case. It’s still early to confirm if this prevented further failures, but I’m optimistic.
Since the upgrade, I’ve experienced frequent crashes and POST issues. Notably, both B650M PRO RS boards had problems. The first one arrived damaged—slightly bent and the BIOS flashback button was almost broken off. I used it for about a week, during which my PC would crash roughly once daily. I returned it, received a replacement, and initially everything worked fine. For about a week afterward, I used the PC normally, but yesterday it crashed again, mirroring the previous issue—requiring another CMOS reset.
About the POST problems: When the system fails to boot, the "VGA" and "boot" debug LEDs usually light up. Occasionally, the other two LEDs ("CPU" and "RAM") also illuminate. A CMOS reset can only boot once; even then, it doesn’t guarantee a successful start without another reset.
I’m also unable to enter the BIOS setup menu. My screen remains blank until I power on Windows. I suspect pressing F2 gets me into the BIOS, but it keeps the display unresponsive.
Additionally, I ran a RAM test for several hours and checked each RAM stick individually—no faults detected.
I’m really struggling to figure out what’s causing these issues. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Be quiet! Pure Power 11 (700W) is ready—adding it to the post now.
I received a newer GPU that is still quite old compared to what I had earlier, and now I can start up without needing a CMOS reset. I can also access the BIOS setup menu. I'm still trying to figure out why those crashes happened, but there haven't been any since Christmas.
