Since switching to Windows 11, I've experienced occasional performance drops that feel like emulation lag—audio distorts and the whole system slows down to a few frames per second. This happens even when nothing is running, such as while watching a YouTube video at low load for a short time. It's been really frustrating, and I'm not sure what causes it or how to fix it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Also, I own a 5800x with 16GB RAM on a B450F board and a 6900XT—those details might be useful.

I understand you're facing similar challenges. I've been experiencing the same problem for a while now, trying to run a fresh install of W11 Pro on an i7-8700 with an Asrock Fatality H370 board, 32GB RAM and an RTX 3080. I've experimented with different RAM configurations, adjusted Gsync and monitor refresh rates, tweaked memory overclocking/underclocking settings in the BIOS, and even changed some performance features. For various reasons, I can't return to Windows 10 without making compromises, so I'm hoping to find a workaround for this issue.

Confirm BIOS/UEFI is current. Install the newest Windows 11 chipset drivers. The performance problem might stem from fTPM; you can turn it off to test. (Warning: Avoid disabling if using Windows Hello or BitLocker. Disable before fTPM, note that BitLocker may take time to decrypt.)

BitLocker can activate itself on Windows 11, but it typically requires a TPM for secure boot.

Not activated by default. When enabled, a yellow lock symbol will appear on the drive in 'This PC'.

Trying it myself by turning off the FTPM. Will share an update once I notice any further slowdown.

Tried it for two days and noticed a slowdown about an hour after the switch, then again today. Probably not FTPM/PTT issues, though it worked okay. I’ll look into more details now since my ideas are running out, and it’s possible the installation itself is the reason.

Are your system details current? I’d also suggest trying a driver booster to confirm you have the most recent software for everything. I’m using Windows 11 across several devices and haven’t encountered any issues yet. On another note, they’re all freshly installed without being upgraded from an older version.

I attempted everything at once, such as turning off FTPM, and it appeared to resolve the issue since I hadn’t experienced it before. Your patience is appreciated—it’s been frustrating!
