Hello,
I’m facing unexpected freezes on my gaming PC. Here are the details of my system:
Processor: AMD - FX-9590 4.7GHz 8-Core
Cooler: Corsair - H100i v2 70.7 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler
Motherboard: Asus - M5A99FX PRO R2.0 ATX AM3+
RAM: Corsair - Vengeance 32GB (4 x 8GB) DDR3-1600
Storage: Kingston - Predator 240GB PCI-E SSD
Graphics Card: EVGA - GeForce GTX 980 Ti 6GB FTW ACX 2.0+
Power Supply: EVGA - SuperNOVA G3 (EU) 1000W 80+ Gold Certified Modular ATX
For two years, my PC operated smoothly until it started freezing randomly. I used the ASUS auto-clocking tool to overclock the CPU. Now, when I adjust the BIOS settings and select the ASUS simple UEFI profile for performance, the system freezes during boot or after login. To function normally, I need to switch the profile to standard, but it still freezes occasionally during intense gaming sessions.
After trying various solutions without success, I’m wondering if this forum can offer any guidance before I consider replacing the hardware.

If it functions well for a short while more, congratulations. Freezing problems generally indicate voltage instability. Turbo refers to auto-overclock, and Cool 'n' Quiet means under-volting or clocking.

Hello, when pc hardware gets older, they require higher voltage to maintain the same performance. This might also indicate instability with overclocking. Remove any auto-overclocking software you have installed, avoid using preset configurations such as asus performance or power saving, and reset your bios. If the issue persists, manually increase your core voltage through the bios. It could also be related to your RAM—consider using only one module to test its impact.

Thank you for your feedback after checking online, I’ve noticed many people facing the same problems. The current BIOS settings are using default values with no overclocking enabled, but it still crashes unexpectedly during games. I’ll follow your suggestion tonight and adjust the core voltage as recommended.

I notice many issues with this motherboard and processor. Here’s what I plan to test tonight:
Disable turbo mode / High Performance Computing.
AMD Cool 'n' Quiet, Core C6 State, HPC Mode.
Enable/Disable AMD Turbo Core Technology.
Check CPU voltages (if below 1.5 reported as a problem).
Try underclocking.
Attempt to raise the core voltage.

It seems to be working well for my initial gaming session this evening. Around 6 or 7 hours ago. I watched a video on YT at https://youtu.be/gtF8AZVkUuA. In the BIOS I changed things: set defaults, turned off Turbo, disabled cool n quiet, turned off SVM, disabled core c6 state, and C1E.
