Brand & Model: HP Prodesk 400 G5
Operating System: Windows 11
BIOS Version: 2.30.0.0

USB SSDs functioned properly initially, but issues arose after installation. Explorer displays drive names and space usage without showing actual files. Switching drives repeats the problem, now displaying the old drive’s name with a damaged icon. Error scanning resolved some issues, yet opening folders prompts permission requests that are frequently denied. On another PC, the drives appear intact despite working USB SSDs. I formatted them in the HP machine, rebooted, and encountered a corrupted Recycle Bin. Online fixes helped, but the same issue persisted with the second drive. I changed letter assignments, tested various ports and cables, switched SATA to USB interfaces, and tried different SSD brands. Windows was reinstalled, drivers and BIOS updated via HP tools, and memory tests passed. Virus/rootkit scans cleared. Transfers between NVMe and HDD, as well as internal storage, function normally. USB ports and peripherals work without problems. I’m seeking guidance to resolve this ongoing challenge. Appreciate any assistance.

You didn't mention clearing the CMOS memory. It might be wise to replace the CMOS battery at the same time because they're inexpensive. Good luck!

It seems there might have been some issues with the BIOS settings or corrupted data. Resetting the CMOS restored everything to its default state.
