Experiencing problems with Godlike Motherboard and AMD CPU RAM?
We are using an MSI MEG X570 Godlike board with an AMD 5950X processor. We're currently in duel channel mode with two 32GB drives, but switching to four channels caused problems. Two sticks stopped working completely and didn't function on another machine. It seems the issue started when the 5950X was new, so we weren't certain what was wrong. Some people think the CPU might not handle four DIMMs well or there could be a motherboard problem. Anyone have suggestions? We're planning to upgrade to 128GB RAM but don’t want to risk more sticks failing.
It's not a four-channel setup. It uses two 2x2 sticks in dual channel mode. Four sticks would be challenging for the CPU memory controller, particularly when mixing RAM from different kits. Which RAM kits are you referring to? Are the motherboard’s BIOS settings current?
The package is a Ripjaw DDR4 4x32GB 3600 MT/s kit running BIOS 2.1.0.218. It was updated in 2021 when problems started.
Yes the dimms did work at the start. But this was back in 2021 so we don't remember what the code was. We remember it was something with the Ram. But when we changed from using all 4 dimms to just 2 the problem was resolved. We then tried putting the other 2 dimms in another computer and they didn't work at all. But when we got more from another kit we had the same issue with 4 slots and was resolved when we switched to 2. We just wanted to see if there is still a known issue at all with the 5950x and using 4 dimms as we remember that being a potential issue back in 2021. Just don't want to get a new 4x32 kit only for two of the dimms to die and be back to the same problem.
I’m experiencing conflicting feedback, but it seems the solution required combining two elements instead of four. Could you clarify what you meant? I’d prefer a clear explanation so I can address it properly.
In short, we faced a problem with our 5950X back in 2021 when it first launched with four RAM sticks. After troubleshooting, we managed to run it with just two sticks. Now that time has passed and we’re swapping systems, we’re aiming for a total of 128GB using all four DIMMs. Do you know if the 5950X still supports four sticks of RAM now? Or is there a concern related to using an MSI MEG Godlike motherboard with it? If not an issue exists or it was just a temporary problem, we’ll order a new 4x32GB RAM package.
