Experiencing problems when overclocking the I7 920 processor.
Hi,
I own a Core I7 920 with a clock speed of 2.67ghz on an Asus P6t SE. Recently, I installed 24gb DDR3 RAM (1666) and a GTX 970 graphics card to handle demanding color correction software. The store assembled the new parts and requested an OC for the CPU to 3.6ghz, hoping for better performance. However, they struggled with overclocking and only managed 3.3ghz, which caused blue screens. Today I encountered a blue screen while using the software again. Anyone know what might be causing the OC problem? Could it be related to the RAM?
It might be the RAM, the chip could be struggling to reach its full speed due to lack of reliable overclocking, there may be age-related issues like electromigration, or the power supply could be subpar. The person attempting the overclock likely encountered several factors. When you invested in new hardware at a store, you probably got near the price of upgrading to something more modern and less outdated.
