You mentioned testing it with your MacBook using DP, but you're asking if we're interpreting this correctly. It seems you want to connect both monitors through DP using two separate cables, not setting them up in a daisy-chain. Does the second monitor you're using support DP?

Check 1 (gaming) uses 1 DP and 2 HDMI displays, while 2 HDMI Monitor 2 (work) has 1 DP with 1 HDMI and a VGA PC. I'm considering fixing the HDMI connection from my PC to M2 since running another DP there would affect my work/macbook setup.

You might want to consider using an HDMI to DP adapter to link the second monitor to your PC.
