Experiencing difficulties with overclocking my Pentium G3258
Hello!
Today I noticed my CPU is struggling due to slow performance and insufficient cores. I'm attempting to push it overclock, but the Gigabyte B85M-HD3 R4 motherboard is displaying odd information on the BIOS screen. I adjusted the CPU clock ratio multiplier from 32 to 42, which resulted in a speed of 4.87GHz. However, I didn’t save the changes because I don’t want my CPU to fail, especially since it’s running on its original cooler.
Is there another method to set the CPU around 4.2GHz and maintain 1.2V without changing BIOS settings? I also tried resetting the BIOS to factory defaults, but the speed display still changed.
Here are my PC specifications:
- Intel Pentium G3258 @3.2GHz (stock speed with original cooler)
- Sapphire Radeon R7 370 Nitro 2GB
- 8GB Crucial Ballistix DDR3 RAM @1600MHz (2x4GB)
- Gigabyte B85M-HD3 R4 motherboard
- Kingston SSD (V300 series, 120Gb) and Toshiba 1TB HDD
- 400W Bequiet! PurePower L8 PSU
The main goal is to avoid damaging the CPU by not making changes in BIOS. I’m also not keen on affecting frame rates in games, as my older i7 still performs well with a different GPU.
Thank you in advance for your help!
