I just built a new PC with these parts: 12700kf (updated, not overclocked yet), CMW16GX4M2Z4000C18, 16GB RAM Corsair (currently at 2633), Z690 Aorus Elite DDR4 (BIOS just updated), RTX 3080 NVIDIA, and a PSU rated for RM1000x. It was stable until you tried to run the RAM at its recommended speed of 4000MHz using XMP. After that, it wouldn’t start properly and needed a CMOS reset to work again. The BIOS screen didn’t appear at all. Did I do something wrong? I only saw one XMP profile available.
Board might not allow that particular module (size) at that exact velocity. Review the QVL and compatibility charts thoroughly. Right now I'm processing an RMA for an Asus unit capable of supporting DOCP 2666 to 3200 with 16GB Crucial Ballistix, but not 32GB... Many are pointing out they don’t test every module, yet my 2x16 configuration is only marked for 2666, while a single 16GB RAM slot would work at 3200.
It's a real issue with Gigabyte Z690 boards for memory support in this generation. The 4000MHz speed is way too high for typical use cases in older GPUs. You might try turning on XMP, but before you start, lower the frequency to 3600MHz and keep everything else unchanged to check if it improves performance.
