My setup includes an Asus z370p, i7-8700k, 32GB Adata DDR4 3200, WD black sn770, EVGA GTX 1080, and a Corsair gold-rated PSU I don’t remember the details of. Recently, my system has been acting up. A few days back it crashed while playing Destiny 2 (driver crash), but after restarting once it worked again. Now it won’t load at all or only crashes after a short time (black screen, input loss, then returns). The monitor shows normal temperatures and no unusual readings, and drivers are up to date. I’ve also recreated the problem on an O2 rig. Still unsure what’s happening.

I consider starting in Safe Mode to check for stability. Also suggest using DDU and reinstalling the drivers.

I've been occupied recently and haven't had time to address this for a while. The issue didn't appear when I entered safe mode, and after reinstalling the newest drivers, it wasn't losing output for a short while but then started dropping again after a few seconds (likely 5-10). I plan to try reseating and resecuring the cables—though the system hasn't changed much except for installing a new SSD a while back.

You noted your drivers are up to date yet the system crashes. Consider removing the existing graphics driver via Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) and then installing a brand-new version from NVIDIA’s site 1. Another option is to verify if your graphics card is overheating; tools such as MSI Afterburner can track GPU temps during gameplay 2. If overheating occurs, cleaning the card and reapplying thermal paste may help 2.

I don’t think so. I’ll revisit the update reminder and try again later. I kept pushing it back while I worked on the troubleshooting. After updating Windows, I thought it might help.

I checked yesterday too, but the issue persists. I’ve kept my MSI afterburning charts saved, and the card isn’t getting hot according to both Afterburner and HWInfo. It wasn’t even hitting temperatures near its usual range during the time it begins dropping power.

A typical occurrence arises, with clues pointing toward a fix. Roughly 90.5% often involves a software update, while around 4.5% is due to hardware issues. Popped cap, perhaps?

Sure, I'm planning to copy my files to a USB stick and see if a clean Windows setup helps. Looking for alternative approaches or solutions to try.

Open "event viewer," navigate to its "administrative events" section, and look for helpful information. Additionally, execute the command in PowerShell to view the output.
