I attempted with XMP off and PBO off, but experienced a significant freeze and overall performance drop. This was anticipated given the rapid 5-minute test cycles. It's unclear what the long-term effects would be since these changes are applied quickly. So far, auto PBO XMP seems to perform best compared to my usual settings.
I'm testing it in the context of a game, but I don't have the specific name mentioned. Could you clarify which game you're referring to?
I was trying it in FXIV, which is my primary game since the previous update was demanding a lot of CPU power. I thought running everything at its lowest settings would give me some benefits. I kept my RAM usage low so I could simulate the situation and see what happens. My VRAM never hit the maximum because I do this regularly, and I haven’t noticed it going above 4GB.
the games i typically play have performance issues such as stutters and freezing during certain moments. xiv ow dfo causes problems like menu delays and character rendering glitches, especially in raids. lost ark hasn't worked well for me either. idk if it's the game's optimization or my system. i've tried various titles but they all tend to lag significantly. labyrinthine, d2, dbd, deep rock galactic all show noticeable stutters compared to my usual experience, except fx5iv where it only stutters when loading lots of text. elden ring's performance is similar at about every 5 seconds. my computer has been acting strangely over the past four years—sometimes the frame rate fluctuates so much it feels like a microstutter. the only smooth moments are when nothing moves noticeably. i'm not sure if this is normal or expected on my machine.
Review CPU, GPU, RAM, VRAM usage and see if any component is reaching its limit. Lower settings might be causing issues; the shader cache could be a problem but usually resolves quickly. These older games are likely affected. Consider a clean Windows reinstall, updating BIOS and drivers, then proceed.
I reside in an older home, the wiring is likely over 70 years old now—no issues with upgrades or interruptions... I wouldn’t pay much attention to it. Just ensure you have a high-quality UPS, but I’d be surprised if that fixes anything. All the discussions about resets, GSync, and VSync seem to point toward a faulty monitor or incorrect settings. So in Overwatch, are you using both VSync and GSync? At what frame rate does this operate? Also, as others mentioned, it probably requires a complete reinstall of Windows 10... and if you do that, use a brand-new, empty quality SSD for storage.
I definitely give it a shot. I manage to enable the fullscreen 141 cap and GSync via nvcp, and using gsync helps. However, some titles don’t support true fullscreen, so I often just play without it. I’ve adjusted the cap settings, but it doesn’t quite provide the stable lock I hoped for.
