Experienced a stutter lasting three years with limited improvement following an upgrade.
Hello, I've been dealing with stutters and shakes for roughly three to four years now. I searched extensively online, tried various fixes, but the problems persist. I removed several drivers using DDU and checked registry entries repeatedly. I also cleared the registry often and reset Windows multiple times—even after upgrading to Windows 11. So far, only Overwatch and Black Ops 4 seem stable; otherwise, I anticipate stutters eventually. It made me suspect my system was built for battle.net titles only.
The shakes aren't constant anymore since the upgrade, but they still occur, especially in newer games. I don’t expect much performance from recent releases, though my GPU temps stay around 83°C and CPU at 81°C. I think the issues involve text or pop-ups—like menu prompts or in-game text—appearing during loading. This happened in games such as Bo3 Zombies and Mystery Box. It seems like text or assets are loading slowly, even with fast storage like a Samsung NVMe drive.
I was told it might be related to my PC's power quality, possibly from "dirty electricity," though I live in an older building. I've upgraded RAM and CPU three times already (details to follow). Many people say they can't pinpoint when slight frame drops happen, but if I were stuck at 60 FPS and dropped to 59, I'd notice tiny jitters in objects—like a microstutter.
I’ve tried upgrading everything I could for games that barely meet the recommended specs. If this is truly the case, maybe it's an inherent limitation. I’m considering a UPS power generator as a potential solution. I also have a setting issue where both VSync and G-Sync are off, causing jittery performance. My guides suggest using VSync with G-Sync in full screen, but turning them off makes the problem worse.
I’ve paid a repair shop to rebuild my PC just to confirm if the problem was environmental. I’m open to trying a high-end GPU and CPU for games that don’t demand much power, since I don’t want to waste money on fixes I can't remember. If you have any tips or experiences similar to mine, it would be really helpful. Thanks for your time!
Need to restart or reinstall? There’s a big difference there. A good upgrade with power filtering could make a real impact. You might be amazed at how simple this can be. Still, it works as a solid fix.
Is this the standard Windows reset feature? It usually doesn't resolve issues, so a complete wipe and reinstall might be necessary!
after upgrading to Windows 11, the store performed a full reset and set up a fresh version of the operating system.
It’s good to hear. I’d still handle it myself just to be certain. Disconnect one SSD so you retain your data, then reinstall an official Microsoft download. Just install Windows, get a driver from the official NVIDIA site, and launch the problem game you’ve freshly downloaded. If that doesn’t work, maybe a power surge caused the issue. Also, check if XMP is enabled in the BIOS—turn it off and set memory to 2133MHz. Disable PBO as well. The idea is to keep the system safe and minimize interference before troubleshooting further. Have you tried running the PC in another room? Proper power there might resolve the problem.
Performance enhancement through overclocking. Pbo refers to a performance boost setting. It may automatically activate in the BIOS at times.
I didn’t really understand PBO before, so I tried it out and went to a store to test it. On a game with PBO enabled, I noticed stutters when loading my character and on/off issues that made the game freeze quickly. When I switched off XMP and PBO, the performance improved noticeably. It’s strange how turning auto mode on helped, since I’d heard it really boosts speed and reduces stuttering.
