I purchased an HP Omen 40L from the FB Marketplace because my computer was outdated and I didn’t want to build a new one. It came with specs like a Ryzen 7 5800X, RTX 3070 Ti, 1 TB M.2 SSD, and DDR4 RAM. After a fresh Windows install, everything seemed normal. Instead of replacing the old SSD, I decided to keep the existing machine and set it up anew. But something felt off. When performing basic tasks—like browsing files or opening browsers—there was noticeable lag and stuttering, and my mouse would jerk and move erratically. Files took about two seconds to open. It felt like operating on a 15-year-old desktop with a failing hard drive. After updating to Code Booster 6, performance improved dramatically, running at a steady 200 frames per second. I ran diagnostics on CPU, GPU, RAM, and temperatures—all clear. CrystalDiskInfo confirmed the M.2 drive was fine. MalwareScan showed no threats, power settings were optimal, RAM re-seated, and all motherboard connections checked. I even wiped the OS from a USB drive, not from the cloud. I’m confused—why would resetting Windows from a thumb drive cause such issues? Could the motherboard be damaged? I suspect it’s not the hardware itself since games worked perfectly. It seems there might be some outdated components still present. Make sure to remove every driver and replace them with the ones designed for your current system. Also, consider why the newly installed drive didn’t appear—check if it was properly recognized or if there were installation issues.
The mouse lag or hiccup seems specific to AMD systems (the AMD studder). Verify your BIOS is current and your chipset drivers are updated. It hasn't been fully resolved yet, but it happens less frequently now compared to the first year of release. I still notice it occasionally when closing windows or switching apps. Also, since you're using a 5800X, three of us experience this too.
