Hi there, I'm facing some serious system issues lately. I recently bought an upgrade kit with these specs: motherboard MSI B450M-A PRO MAX ProSeries, AMD Ryzen 5 PRO 4650G (OEM), 6 cores, 12 threads, 11MB cache, up to 4.2GHz RAM, KLEVV CRAS XR RGB 32GB (2x16GB), DDR4 3600MHz GPU, Gigabyte GTX 1080 8GB (triple fan), and a 500W PSU. The problem is, when I turn on A-XMP (EMP) in BIOS to run the memory at 3600MHz, the system won't boot—no display, BIOS takes over, then it restarts back to BIOS. If I lower the frequency a bit, it boots but crashes during benchmarks or games. I've tried setting it to 3200MHz for more stability, but still get random restarts while gaming—just a regular restart without any BSOD. I've adjusted the DRAM speed several times (3600MHz, 3533MHz, 3466MHz, 3200MHz) and checked temperatures; CPU and GPU are within normal ranges, RAM is in dual channel with only two slots, and no overclocking has been done. I also tried enabling OC Genie in BIOS, but it failed to boot. It seems the memory and board might not be compatible or functioning together. Any suggestions on voltages, BIOS tweaks, or compatibility fixes would be greatly appreciated. Thanks ahead!

Run MemTest86 as well, and check the 2666MHz option. The 4650G lacks a top-notch memory controller.

Much better than the joke about Matisse/Vermeer IMCC, though it's still worse than Cezanne. Probably not the problem here—likely the RAM. I’d recommend getting a new set of RAM, assuming it’s defective. Just make sure to update the BIOS beforehand in case there’s a version that can’t clock the RAM correctly.

Occasionally you need to keep trying the BIOS resets. Motherboards can be moody, but Renoir MCs are built for 3200 and should handle 4000+ easily—most issues probably come from elsewhere.

they're all approved for 3200 from Matisse to Cezanne, yet the APU imcs still outperform them. It might be due to outdated or biased bios on the board, but if updating doesn't help, the hardware is likely faulty and needs replacement.

You're asking about the meaning of the compatibility information from MSI. It seems the latest BIOS version might not support your processor, even though you checked their list. This could mean either the BIOS is outdated or it doesn't recognize newer hardware. Updating to the latest BIOS usually improves compatibility, but it's important to verify with the manufacturer before proceeding.

It will be okay because it's still Zen 2. They might have dropped support for Zen (+) in the newest chipsets.

The issue involves G at the end. It's possible the BIOS might be a later version if it hasn't been updated, but it doesn't appear to remove support for the 4000 series. This motherboard seems unaffected by that change.
