Hello everyone, I own a Lenovo Legion 5 with an AMD Ryzen 7 5800H and RTX 3050 graphics. I've been playing games for about three and a half years without any problems. Recently, I started experiencing random ping and jitter spikes while gaming. It affects all my games—Valorant, Deadlock, CS2, Marvel Rivals—and the issues vary in intensity from one day to another. On some days it's barely noticeable, on others it makes playability impossible. I haven't changed any settings before this started, and I usually close out of apps I don’t use. The ping fluctuates between 30 and 800ms, with a lot of packet loss (around 7000 packets lost in a single round of Valorant). It seems the problem is getting worse each week. Interestingly, my friend who uses the same ISP in the same building has no issues at all. My Internet Service Provider ran tests and replaced the whole setup—connectors in the wall and the building hub—but that didn’t fix it. I’ve tried different Ethernet cables, ports on the modem, and even switched to Wi-Fi; nothing helped. I’m starting to suspect a problem with the laptop itself, but I’m not sure. I’d prefer not to investigate blindly before you offer advice. Do you have any suggestions or ideas about what might be causing these issues? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Yes, you can link your laptop straight to your home's Ethernet connection.

Join the discussions! It seems the modem or router is getting too hot, which might be causing these issues. I fixed it by connecting a PC case fan to the side of the modem and using a wall power adapter set to 12V. That resolved everything.

Hey! It seems the approach worked well—no major problems yesterday. It makes sense since games often start fine before things get worse. I'll keep trying for a bit more and see how it goes! Thanks!
