Some users found success using an active USB cable for extending the Vive setup. Others appreciated having a PC in a larger space, like a living room, while playing in a more open area.

I didn't consider an alternative approach because I wasn't aware of another PC's brute force method.

Looking for feedback on using an active HDMI 2.0 cable with a USB Ethernet extender to connect your HTC VIVE headset. Has anyone tried this setup before?

I doubt 100ft will be effective for you. I’m familiar only with this technique using 25ft cables. The USB connection is likely to run into problems because it exceeds the recommended length without a repeater. Including repeaters adds delay. Still, I’m not an expert, but a powered USB cable might function and it does exist. Regarding the HDMI, the cable must be very robust—powered, thick—to preserve high-speed data over its full length, especially since the VIVE demands much bandwidth. That’s possible. The main challenge seems to be investing in quality equipment; otherwise, the chances are slim. If it works, you’d probably notice some lag or delay. I recall seeing a friend play a regular game with a 50ft HDMI cable (a cheap one) and it was very slow. Perhaps a better solution would be using Ethernet for such distances—combining USB/Ethernet and HDMI over Ethernet. However, this approach is costly due to the need for 4K HDMI and isn’t directly related to VR content. It’s best to avoid reposting old threads; consider creating a new one about this topic. (Though VR support is limited, I’m willing to help if you manage it.) I’d recommend asking a new question on the Reddit VR forum.

Many many thx.... I have returned at least 4 Ethernet HDMI extenders because non picked up enough signal or worded... https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01N...UTF8&psc=1 https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=...2649218618 https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=...2649218618 https://www.maplin.co.uk/p/maplin-60m-hd...nder-a99rr and now trying an Active HDMI which is due to arrive today.... https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B00ZGEY...UTF8&psc=1 so will take your advice and may end up buying some expensive cable to try.... As my last resort/option in which the HTC TECH SUPPORT HAD advice me to buy additional link boxes https://www.vive.com/uk/accessory/link-box/ and their 3in1 cables https://www.vive.com/uk/accessory/3-in-1-cable/ to connect and thus to shorten the length before using active cable.... Will post this to the new thread if I have any update... but the discussion has given me some hope to properly use the VIVE in a bigger space than my study room....
