I used an existing boot drive, but it didn't start properly—just a black screen. I plan to make a fresh boot drive and give it another shot. I understand this isn’t ideal; I know using cracked or unlicensed software is risky, and outdated systems are problematic. I wouldn’t risk my PC for critical tasks, but I need a functional, free computer right away. Now I have even more concerns. I’ll just attempt to reinstall Windows 10 or give up.

Because you likely don’t own a Windows license, just set up Linux by installing it through a browser.

It may not function on all PC hardware. Compared to a Chromebook OS, it behaves differently and is limited to specific systems. Years ago, when I attempted to use Chrome OS on an old laptop with a Chromebook, it failed because of compatibility issues. The main difference lies in the operating system's design and supported devices.

ChromeOS Flex was launched last summer; it's the version approved for use on various devices. I haven't used it personally, but it's a secure setup that's free of charge. It lacks certain "premium" capabilities such as Android app support and virtual machine functionality, which isn't necessary for this particular scenario.

Set up Linux Mint with Cinnamon interface. Add Chromium if required, otherwise stick to the standard Firefox. Skip virus scanning. Successfully installed for users seeking a dependable, user-friendly system.
