I'm setting up a PC for my cousin who runs a clothing store. He needs only Google Chrome and doesn’t require heavy security software. Since I’m comfortable with Linux, I want to avoid installing antivirus tools. My goal is to ensure browsing stays safe without restricting normal use. I’m wondering if using a guest Windows account provides enough protection for casual browsing. Can I configure permissions so that certain actions block installation or changes? Also, is it possible to lock the system state to prevent accidental changes? And is freezing the system still relevant in this situation?

It depends on the version; some apps work with Chromium while others are built for Chromium-based systems.

Avoid it. Just don’t. That PC’s Windows 7 license will unlock Windows 10. If they only need a web terminal and don’t want to purchase a Chromebox, you can always set up Ubuntu or ChromeOS Flex.

It seems uncertain. It might be a chromium-based material.

Vivaldi could then be a possibility.

It seems you're looking for advice on installing Windows 10 without UEFI. You mentioned trying Windows 7 and are unsure about getting a license for Windows 10. It might be worth exploring alternative options or checking if your system meets the requirements for the latest version.

The entire issue, even with Windows 7 under certain conditions, centers on safety.

Running unpatched web browsers on unpatched operating systems in production poses serious risks. Ignoring security issues means certificates won’t be updated, causing HTTPS sites to stop loading. It’s similar to installing Windows 7 using the Media Creation Tool without a valid license—especially problematic for businesses where software compliance matters. If you only need basic web access and don’t want to invest in hardware like a Chromebox, consider switching to a simple Linux distribution or Chrome OS Flex instead.
