I'm the budget tech enthusiast. I created an L2TP VPN server on Amazon's free tier instead of buying one. I'm currently testing it on my phone and PC, but I need to use it on my server for some reasons. Can I still connect locally (192.168.1.x) and publicly (my public IP) via RDP while using a VPN?

Using a VPN blocks local connections, so you must link via its external IP address. You might try enabling dual network adapters if your setup allows multiple ports, but you'll need to research it further.

The server seems to assume it can reach the LAN even after port forwarding. From its perspective, it interprets traffic coming from the router's LAN IP address.
