Sure! High FOV means a wider view, which can feel more immersive. Most people enjoy it because it makes scenes look bigger and more detailed. For console games, it often enhances the sense of presence and realism. I get why it’s popular—just like how some prefer bigger screens for better visuals.
Low field of view creates tunnel vision, leading to discomfort like nausea and headaches. It makes it tough to see much around you, similar to trying to navigate your home with binoculars stuck to your face. Wide field of view brings a more realistic experience, which is why games often give a fish-eye effect—our brains adjust for the visual input rather than the display. This isn’t a major problem, and it actually makes gaming more fun for me. Switching to higher FOV will help reduce eye strain and let you play longer without fatigue. I generally prefer 100 FOV and find it hard to play anything below 95 FOV.
For ME 1 and 2 use Gedosato. DSR works well for 3. The UI doesn't improve with higher resolution and anything above 4k looks too tiny. Make sure you have the 4k texture pack for 2, 3 and the MEUITM for 1 all together. ME 1 and 2 perform great at 5120x2880 (5k plus) on my R9 290 Tri-x. Expect similar results with a 980. 970 might not be ideal. DSR/VSR is excellent for titles like Need for Speed Rivals, but change to 60 FPS and run at 1440p for smooth performance. SLI/xfire should handle Mass Effects at 8k (7680x4320). Welcome to downscaling. The best setup is Gedosato for DX 9 games above 4k, DSR/VSR for newer titles, and enjoy it all. Even some DX 9 releases like Dark Souls 2 can run well in 4k on that GTX 980. For ME 3, the MEHEM mod is great if you're coming from consoles, and the citadel mod also adds value at the end of the game.
I don't mean that kind of field of view, but that clip in the video has a console-style FOV, and it looks like the screen size is very small!
I mentioned a newer title, ME3 comes from 2012 and its graphics quality is only just okay for a PC. I can handle high settings on my machine, but it’s roughly as strong as the other player’s in terms of graphics power.
ME3 feels like a classic title, offering a big upgrade from previous entries while keeping its core identity intact. Changing it too much could disrupt the intended progression of the narrative. Far Cry 3 was released around the same time as ME3 and will likely struggle to run smoothly at high resolutions on modern hardware.
I’m all in on reducing the resolution on the PS2-EMU, obviously... Those games without any AA options are actually great!
It's not accurate to say I have an edge over a single 980; my 760s should handle 4K FC3 just fine. My preferred settings in FC3 give me a stable 55-60 FPS. I also tweak NVCP options to enhance visual quality further. I downsample from 3200x1800 since the traditional method isn't supported on my monitor, and it keeps performance smooth.
