Excel file issue, cannot be accessed.
That's not what I meant, please check the information I wrote at the start of this thread. If you read my first post I mentioned that I created the file at my previous company and protected it with a password, but I still have access to it. It was written exactly as in my first post.
if it was taken from another system, you may be lacking ownership of that file. review the security settings in the file properties.
the difference in password protection between an excel file and a windows encrypted file with a user profile. Are there any other files you copied using this excel file? can you open them?
encrypted excel isn't the problem, excel should open it but you'll see a password prompt
i encountered this issue several times when files lacked proper read access or someone else on the network had the right to open them
using a file from the company computer where all accounts have certain permissions, moving it outside the network would eliminate even basic read capabilities
the file security settings appear to be set in this way:
Additionally, it's worth noting that certain organizations might restrict access to Excel files by adding a "lock." I understand this because I received one such warning—it wasn't encrypted, but when opened in Excel, it displayed a notice about content being of critical importance, indicating it was intended only within the organization. You might have a specific term or feature for this restriction.
When i worked at my previous company i created an excel file containing private and personal information such as accounts and passwords. For the most part this should not have been done, but the reasons are probably irrelevant. You might have generated the file and included your personal details, yet your former employer may not regard it as theirs. As I see it, you took a copy of the excel file with you. Did you obtain any approvals or permissions from your previous company to do so? I don’t know the details of how or why this is stopping the file from being opened. I also lack full information about the file’s creation, ownership, and other aspects. It’s impossible to fully understand the situation here. You should ask your former company for an unencrypted or otherwise protected version of the excel file. Any further help trying to access a secured document violates forum rules. Please close the thread accordingly.
