I obtained it from g2a for £20 with the monster expansion DLC. It feels like a solid value at £20. The main issue is that Evolve aims for a different game, a unique experience... and critics note this. I mostly wanted it to function as a monster but that isn't always possible. The game guides you to arrange the five classes in your preferred order, and if you miss your first pick it tries to place you in the next favorite one, which is helpful. The hunters are actually quite enjoyable to play, and so far I haven't seen any "bad" games where players abandon the group. We've lost but it was still a fair match and we gave it our all. Honestly, if you're looking for something new... Evolve is a great starting point.
It seems like the game might lose its excitement quickly, similar to what happened with Titanfall.
DONT BUY IT I wont lie its very fun .... the first fucking week or 5 days. It doesnt have enough content. Just dont buy it....
This. The key word here is " if both sides are ok at it". And in this lies the major problems with the game. Most affairs are heavily one sided when 'pubbing'. You need a good team and a good monster player for the game to be interesting. Unfortunatley this is barely ever the case and the game is dying in population because of this main issue. There are just too many variables that have to come together to make this game good - but when it does it is pretty good, not L4D2 level of good, but good.
I used to be a dedicated L4D2 player, which is what drew me to this game. If I prefer playing alone, I should keep an eye on any updates for Evolve (I think Turtle Rock is disappointed with the changes) and consider trying Cities or another solo title while it evolves.
The game lacks lasting appeal, shown by the current number of players. Though it had some execution issues, it wasn’t terrible, but it doesn’t retain interest over time. I grew tired after just a few hours, especially when playing with friends, and even then it quickly loses its charm.
