I’m curious about whether choosing the EVGA Supernova 850 T2 is still a good idea compared to a newer PSU. I remember it gets high marks for low noise, and I’m not sure if opting for newer models like the Seasonic Vertex series is worth it just because they’re newer. I don’t need the latest GPU connections since I have an RX 7900xt and prefer sticking with what I know works well. I’m looking for something dependable and quiet. I’ve tried a Corsair RM 850x, but it keeps making high-pitched squeals and has shut down a few times.

I wouldn't. The platform is outdated and lacks support for current standards, which could lock you into an obsolete part. Still, it's a solid PSU, especially useful in areas where quality power supplies are hard to find. If you're considering alternatives, I'd suggest checking other options first.

What country are you located in? What budget are you aiming for with a PSU?

Hi. I wasn't too concerned about PCIe 5.0, my goal is simply to assemble a new machine in 5-7 years and pass it on to the kids or donate it then. I’d like to return the Corsair at this stage since I just received it a few weeks ago.

I’m located in Canada, and I’m comfortable spending up to $300 before taxes. I plan to use a Fractal Torrent Compact case, which gives me about 180mm of space for the EVGA PSU length.

Another consideration was either a Seasonic Vertex GX 850 or 1000, though I noticed some reports about coil whine—though that might be common with most components. Super Flower Leadex Titanium was another model I was checking on Newegg. Overall, I’m aiming for something quiet and efficient, preferably gold or better.
