EVGA GTX 780 SC ACX paired with farccry 3?
Yesterday I bought the mentioned card and installed it, but there were some issues with setting up the drivers. Eventually everything worked out. I did a lot of research beforehand, expecting better performance than 60fps on games like FC3 Ultra 1080p without an accelerator. However, I’ve struggled to maintain a steady 60fps at times. Before you get upset, this is the first upgrade I’ve made to my PC. Part of me thinks it’s my hardware limitations, possibly due to a bottleneck from the CPU or RAM. My setup includes an AMD FX-6300 processor, 8GB of G.SKILL Ripjaws 1600 (2x4), and a high-end RAM. Could my CPU be the cause? Or did I set too high expectations? I’m not sure if I should be blamed for this. It cost me $750... EDIT: Correction needed, please move it if possible?
I also forgot to note that after getting the card, I also installed an old monitor (probably around 1280x800 resolution) for browsing while gaming. Could this affect power usage? Also, would it be possible to overclock my CPU? My budget PC has basic cooling and a stock motherboard, but I’m open to trying if it makes sense.
Overclocking the built-in cooler isn't advisable. Running another monitor shouldn't cause significant issues. I frequently stream multiple videos while gaming and notice minimal performance drops. What are the temperatures for the GPU and CPU? It's possible thermal throttling is occurring, though that seems unlikely. You might attempt to overclock the GPU to determine if additional speed improves things. If it does, then the original GPU wasn't sufficient.
I believe the issue lies with the CPU, since I run Far Cry 3 at 1080p and maintain solid 60fps. My system has a 4770k and a GTX 760, but sometimes FPS drops to around 50, which is typical for that type of game. That points to the CPU as the likely culprit. It would cost about 750 dollars, which is higher than usual—around 500 in other places. Do you live in Mexico?
current temperatures while playing FarCry 3 have been around 58°C on the CPU and 52°C on the GPU. Not too bad, right? I’m from New Zealand, where taxes are really high—like paying over $100 in GST on something simple. The conversion rate adds up; the card price without tax was about $660 NZD, which translates to roughly $570 USD before tax.
