During spring break I left my computer idle for nine days. Since it restarts now, performance is very slow and websites load slowly. How can I speed things up again? Also, no one used the machine during that time.

The issue could be with the internet connection or the computer itself.

It might relate to starting up for the first time recently, but I'm not sure it matters. Have you reset again?

It's possible your device was running more efficiently before, but now it feels sluggish.

It seems possible the device was undergoing a Windows update while you were away. -> An A/V system might run virus scans on certain files before Windows boots, especially if neglected after some time. (Windows Defender or similar doesn't perform this.) -> The hard drive was taking longer to spin up because it wasn't spinning properly for a while—likely due to worn platters, not an issue unless it was definitely failing. (This only extends the startup delay beyond normal POST time, unless the drive is malfunctioning.) -> A fatal crash occurred during the last shutdown, and Windows completed a full restart without using Prefetch or optimizations (essentially starting from scratch).
