Everything is heading toward a decline
Recently, I upgraded my PC. I got a new motherboard, CPU, and GPU, keeping the AIO, case fans, and GPU for now. Everything functioned smoothly. Then I bought a 3060 Ti. Right away, problems appeared. Logging in took 2 to 10 minutes, after which the system would freeze. I tried various fixes but nothing resolved it. I returned the unit and got a 3070 instead. Sometimes it freezes only when launching a game, other times it blocks login entirely. I reinstalled Windows, updated BIOS, reinstalled drivers, updated Windows again, changed power limits, yet issues persisted. I swapped in a spare GTX 970 and everything worked perfectly. Now the 3070 is back, but I’m encountering a BSOD with the clock watchdog timeout error. No overclocking has been done. I ran memory tests and an SFC scan, but found nothing. At first I thought it was power-related, so I’m planning a better power supply. It arrives later today. In the meantime, anyone have suggestions? My specs are i5 12600K, ROG B660-i EK 240mm, AIO, 2TB NVMe SSD, TUF 3070, EVGA 650W PSU, Windows 11. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
I installed it using DDU, which is what you referred to by reinstalling. The power supply is nearly three years old, and it’s an EVGA G5.
Seems like the problem might not be the drivers or the PSU, but rather the current spikes when using the RTX 3000. Would a more powerful solution help?
It seems like you're considering the PSU and are hesitant until seeing how the replacement affects things. That approach might resolve the issue.
The initial information was quite poor. The factory shipped bios were terrible. I also have a board of this type. If you meant to keep using the stock bios or haven’t updated yet, turn off the Asus performance enhancement settings. Since I experienced issues with the factory bios already, I disabled it and never looked back. For further problems, try the CPU v-core LLC at level 4. If you need to monitor droop, turn off the c-states in the CPU power management under the configuration tab.
Bios is now refreshed and I've turned off ASUS upgrades. The clock issue remains.
Power supply connected…still not working properly. It seems the issue moved a bit deeper into the game’s loading menu this time.
