Everything is crashing! Windows 10 is failing?
Kind of? If it's not letting you update then it's a potential security risk and if there is something that wrong with it, then there's a chance it might just get progressively worse. If it's only going to be a month or so before you move to a new P.C. it might not be worth messing around with this one...save all of that time and energy for when you have the new install in place.
If even Windows updates fail, that's not acceptable. Without updates, you'd remain exposed to threats such as WannaCrypt, exploiting a flaw that was fixed just over two months before the ransomware became active. If Windows is unstable, simply reinstalling it via the Media Creation Tool might be the best option. Even without a product key, the system will activate automatically once connected to the internet. Something likely went wrong at some stage—perhaps third-party software conflicted with Windows or a broken update caused the issue. By this point, reformatting isn't a major loss; just move your files—photos, videos, documents, bookmarks—to an external drive or backup drive. Avoid using the "Reset" option in Windows 10 if the OS is damaged, as it won't resolve deeper problems.
