Just a short while ago I was playing Black Ops 3 when my PC stopped working, I thought it was a power surge. Dad said all the switches were off, so I tried to restart it and play again. Now the game says it won’t work. I sighed and said maybe I’ll try something else. It looks like any of the games I’m installing from Steam isn’t functioning—Skyrim, Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2 (< from Origin) and now Plague Inc has a purple screen. I asked the devs what to do and they suggested downloading it again. They mentioned my system is Visual C 2015, but it said it’s already installed and can’t install this one. I’ve decided to build a new computer, but I still have to wait almost two months to save enough money. Now I’m wondering if Windows 10 is really broken for gaming.

If the game runs on a 32-bit architecture, you may have to install the corresponding 32-bit Visual C version, even if you're using a 64-bit operating system. Make sure the files you download align with the requirements for that specific version rather than adjusting them to fit your OS's bit size. For a 32-bit game, obtaining 32-bit libraries is essential so it functions properly (regardless of whether your Windows is 64-bit). If this isn't possible, I have no further suggestions.

I've been using Windows 10 for almost a year now and haven't encountered this issue before, especially with older games.

You might be dealing with unrelated issues being linked to a single cause. If the developers suggested downloading specific files to fix the purple screen, it's possible the problem isn't resolved because you installed incorrect types... ...for other concerns, the reasons could differ entirely. Have you ensured your drivers are current?

Windows 10 might not be the main issue. The problem could lie with hardware or something conflicting with Steam. Are you seeing any error messages when launching a game? Or is the system just unresponsive or showing a black screen? Are only Steam games affected, or are other titles impacted too? Do you own any Origin-only titles, Uplay games, or a non-launcher-based title? If your games are stored on a different drive than the boot drive, consider using tools like WD Lifeguard or Seagate Seatool to check for drive issues. You might be able to write data but not read it, which could explain the trouble. Have you tried reinstalling Steam, disabling the overlay in Steam settings, updating graphics drivers, installing the latest DirectX, or navigating to a game's folder to find redist distribution files?

I'm pretty certain about that, even though Windows 10 can experience issues where it updates and then freezes.

For a 32bit game, you may need to update or reinstall the 32bit libraries to resolve issues like the purple screen. This might help at least, but I’m not very familiar with the details. If the developers suggested downloading something, that’s likely the best approach. Make sure you download the correct files for your game, matching it to the game itself rather than the OS. It’s usually safer to install both 32bit and 64bit versions while you’re on the site to avoid future problems.

Currently, everything looks good with Windows 10 as long as the downloads are complete.

It could help to fix your operating system. Do you have a Windows boot disk you can use to test if the installation will repair itself? I haven't tried this before, but it hasn't happened in a while, so it might be worth a shot. You might follow this link: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/inst...bleshooter
