Last week, my computer rebooted unexpectedly without any apparent reason. I wasn’t using any specific program or streaming content at the time. Once it switched off, I resumed normal activity until another restart occurred an hour later. After that, I searched online and updated my drivers, but the issue persisted, restarting roughly ten minutes after the previous one. I was unable to access my system and was directed into automatic repair, claiming Windows couldn’t launch properly.

I attempted various fixes—scanning with command prompts, using bootrec utilities, restoring from saved states, reinstalling Windows via the installer, and even replacing the power supply. Each time it would restart again shortly after. The problem seemed to appear only when something was active, such as when I was playing games or accessing certain files.

I checked my PSU and found it might be faulty, since it only restarted during low-power tasks. I borrowed a friend’s PSU to test this theory. It worked! After playing games, watching YouTube, and chatting on Discord for about an hour, the computer rebooted successfully.

However, after replacing the power supply, the issue returned. I also tried resetting the CMOS battery, rearranging RAM, and swapping the motherboard slot, but nothing changed. The system displayed yellow, red, white, then green lights during boot attempts, yet it didn’t crash or fail to start in BIOS.

My motherboard displays a mix of colors when I try to boot—yellow, red, white, then green—but it still doesn’t launch properly. It restarts randomly while entering advanced options without doing anything meaningful.

I’m running out of time and feeling very frustrated. This machine has cost me a lot, and I’m at my limit. Could you help me figure out what’s wrong?

Hey there! Get ready to clean up your RAM. Remove it completely and make sure the slot is empty. Insert one stick into the main slot (either Slot 0 or 1, it will be marked). Check if the issue persists. Repeat the process with the other stick.

Do you have an integrated graphics card? I attempted to disable your GPU and run the application solely on it.

Do you experience a BSoD or a sudden power drop?

It restarts on its own occasionally, but at other times it reaches the login screen or displays a system repair prompt indicating it couldn't start properly.

Is your board shutting down completely or just freezing? If it’s the latter, consider giving it a water treatment—usually my final resort. Now I often start with this method when I encounter one of these boards. Properly discharging by submerging them in water helps clean them and resolve problems, especially if they’re stuck or restarting unexpectedly. Remove everything connected, take off the heatsinks, extract the CMOS battery, clear the CMOS memory, and short the power button for a couple of minutes. Then soak the board in water, ensuring it’s fully covered, and let it sit for about an hour or two before drying for roughly two days. You can also place it in the dishwasher without detergent.

I attempted, although it didn’t appear to function. It emitted several beeps, yet it never started up.

It ends with the screen going instantly black. This might seem a bit dangerous, but I’m deciding to wait a while before proceeding, just in case there are other choices available.

Checked the BIOS update status and examined the Event Viewer for any relevant alerts or changes.
