Event Live Kernel 1a/b8 during main display power-off and power-on process
During my review of the reliability records, I observed several Windows Hardware Errors. These are LiveKernelEvent alerts with codes either 1a8 or 1b8. These issues appear exclusively when I power down my monitor and then restart it using the power button on the screen, while a second display remains connected via HDMI. This pattern is consistently reproducible.
The associated bucket IDs typically read:
Bucket ID: LKD_0x1A8_10_OSGraphicsMonitorNoModeSetTSDD_dxgkrnl!DISPLAYSTATECHECKER::CreateBlackScreenLiveDump
or
Bucket ID: LKD_0x1B8_NV_Blackscreen_Blackbox_dxgkrnl!DxgCreateLiveDumpWithDriverBlob
My primary monitor is a BenQ MOBIUZ EX2710s (1080p 165Hz) linked through a DisplayPort cable, and my secondary screen is an LG OLED C4 55" which is usually off except when used as a PC display during gaming. It remains connected to the GPU via HDMI at all times.
To clarify further:
When the LG display is in standby mode and I switch the main BenQ monitor on and off, a hardware LiveKernelEvent of type 1a/b8 occurs. However, if I disconnect the LG screen and then power down the monitor, no errors appear. Errors disappear when the LG display stays on. Additionally, the GPU and display function normally without problems—except for one minor case with the new 5070ti purchased in August, where the screen only activates after reaching the Windows 11 login screen. A workaround involves repeatedly pressing the DEL key in BIOS to enter a BIOS menu before turning off and back on the display, which then displays the BIOS interface and splash screen.
This situation seems like a typical Windows/NVIDIA quirk or a minor configuration issue rather than a critical problem. It appears unrelated to the LG TV settings. Should I be worried if the GPU/display operates well otherwise?
Whoops! Added it to the list. Before the 5070ti I was using the RTX 3070. The boot up and bios screen used to work fine on the previous GPU with the same display port cable. I never really bothered connecting the LG TV to my 3070 as I didn't have a long enough HDMI cable at the time and I had no real use for the tv as a PC display (bought the LG TV mainly for my PS5). So I can't say for sure if these livekernelevent errors would've occurred even on the older GPU.
There is another BIOS version awaiting an update. Check if this resolves the problem.
I just updated the BIOS but it didn't resolve the problem. The display still fails to turn on until I reach the Windows login screen (unless I power off and on during POST or use HDMI), and I can reproduce the hardware errors in reliability history by following the steps I previously mentioned.
