Even with minimal adjustments, Overwatch still runs slowly.
Even with minimal adjustments, Overwatch still runs slowly.
I recently purchased a 144hz monitor to enjoy Overwatch at 144fps, transitioning from a 60hz screen that caused noticeable tearing. Even with low settings and minimal resource usage, my game runs around 160+ FPS without issues, but during team fights it drops to 100 FPS and hovers near 144. All adjustments are set to low or off, yet frame drops persist. My system includes a 7th gen Intel Core i5-7500 @ 3.40ghz, 16GB DDR3 RAM at 2400mhz, 1050ti processor, 1TB HDD, and a 240GB SSD with Overwatch installed. I’ve tried suggestions from forums about disabling the game DVR in Windows settings, but they haven’t helped much. What changes might improve my performance?
It's a 1050Ti with an old CPU and slow RAM. You might see good performance at lower settings, but you'll need a newer processor. The hardware unboxed video shows NVIDIA drivers often struggle with older CPUs, making them the main limitation even for budget cards. You didn’t need a 144Hz display to avoid tearing—just turn on V-Sync and use a 60Hz monitor; that should keep you steady at around 60FPS. Tearing happens when FPS doesn’t match refresh rate, whether too low or too high. Adjust your monitor’s refresh rate to about 100Hz and enable V-Sync for a smoother experience. This is the only free fix I can suggest.
