Hi, I just started playing again and keep getting random stutter moments that aren't there before. The thing is, the screen freezes for a split second when FPS drops are below 5 fps, and sometimes my frame rate jumps up by 100 points. Is this normal ??? g-sync probably won't help in these cases. Even though I'm above 30 fps on average, it still happens here. These small drop-offs happen even while standing still (no mouse movement) and get worse when running. Here are my specs and some things i already tried: -Legion 5-15ACH6H (2021) - Type 82JU AMD Ryzen™ 7 5800H NVIDIA®GeForce® RTX™ 3060 6GB and 16GB RAM -Clean AMD and NVIDIA drivers installed with DDU -latest bios driver version 59 -TPM disabled -performance mode, hybrid off, temps lower than 80ºC -Memtest86 on RAM- all good - SFC /scannow -done -Upgraded to W11 (no luck) and got back to W10 maintaining the files Should i do a clean w10 install ? Thank you

I think that is two sticks of memory right? Which games are you playing, and are you using MSI Afterburner to check how your processor is working and what its speed is when you play?

yes i bought 2 sticks of samsung DDR4 some months ago. back then, I played Valorant, Hellblade, and Dying Light smoothly. Recently, I tried Biomutant, which had a few small freezes but kept the frame rate pretty steady even though it got worse if you ran other things. Batman Arkham City felt smooth until flying caused stuttering. Sniper Ghost Warrior 3 was bad; there were constant stutters and sometimes laggy feel. The FPS numbers were weird because they often went up by 100 points. Now I tried Singularity, an old game capped at 60 frames per second that dropped to around 59 and would freeze for a split second. When I checked my CPU usage today, Biomutant used about 20% and +4000 mhz while Singularity used only 10% and +3700 mhz.

What is most strange is that the game used to feel smooth before, which hints something changed in your setup right now. If you are checking this by looking only at the FPS number, you should try recording the lowest, middle, and highest frame rates instead because a sudden drop might be too small to notice on the screen. Does turning off the frame cap at 60 make those stuttering moments go away?

I see lots of people complaining that gaming laptops act slow when they aren't playing games. Usually, this happens while plugged in. A big reason is thermal throttling. Laptop coolers have to be small and light because there isn't much room inside the machine. They also aren't very powerful. If you open a tool like HWMonitor or HWinfo, you can see where your CPU gets hot at its lowest point and highest. For Intel chips, if the max temp hits 100 degrees Celsius, that means it's throttling down to save itself. The processor slows its speed and uses less power just to keep cool until things get better. With a lower multiplier, your CPU might be running at full capacity even though the temperature is low. So what do you do? First, check if your airways are clear and if the fan is actually spinning fast enough. Try using a balanced power plan instead of one set for maximum performance. Change the minimum CPU speed to something like 20%. It sounds weird, but try switching the Windows balanced power profile's advanced settings from 100% down to 90%. You might not feel much difference right away.
