Evaluating the possibility of installing additional RAM while having some concerns.
My setup details: Intel 6700K, Asus Radeon RX 5700 XT, MSI Z170A Gaming Pro board, Samsung SSD 850 EVO 250GB, dual 1x4TB and 1x2TB drives, 2x4GB GSKill Ripjaws 5 DDR4-2400 CL15 RAM (F4-2400C15-4GVR), Corsair CS750M power supply. I built this system in November 2015 and upgraded the GPU in November 2019 after my previous MSI R9 390 failed. Now that I’m mostly at home, I’m thinking about improving my PC. Initially, I considered an NVMe drive, but realized boosting RAM might offer better gains. It seems my slowest part is memory. I’m eyeing the GSKill Ripjaws 5 2x16GB DDR4-3000 CL16 (F4-3000C16D-32GVRB). Adding these would raise my RAM from 8GB to 40GB. https://www.hepsiburada.com/g-skill-ripj...epsiburada I have some questions: 1) Is this upgrade worthwhile? Mostly I use the PC for browsing, but I also edit RAW photos in Photoshop and play games like BFV, Cities: Skylines, The Witcher 3—occasionally. I have a 4K monitor and work in 4K settings. When playing BF5, RAM usage hovers near 8GB (about 95%) with a pagefile of 23GB. With Chrome tabs open, RAM sits around 6-7GB and the pagefile is 16GB. Overall, my system runs smoothly despite high usage. Do I really gain benefits? 2) Could compatibility be an issue? Same brand, different model numbers and speeds. My current RAM is 2400MHz, new ones are 3000MHz. Would switching all four still work at 2400MHz? Also, the latency differences matter. 3) There’s a concern about physical fit: the RAM sticks sit on the CPU fan’s plastic cover. They fit, but the top edge bends slightly—about half a millimeter. Could this affect long-term stability? The manual mentions support for up to 64GB and various speeds, including dual channel, ECC, and XMP. Would these specs still apply? Also, I noticed in Task Manager that RAM runs at 2133MHz, while HWiNFO shows 2132 and 1066MHz. A screenshot is attached for reference. Should I worry about those numbers?
I'll review the XMP configurations. I'm not sure their value would be significant. Even without them, I'd like to retain them as keepsakes.
