I purchased my initial PC rather than constructing one earlier this year, mainly since there were no other options for a GPU. The prebuilt model included a 10700F and a very basic gaming motherboard (Gigabyte B460m DS3H) along with an RTX 3070. I’m unable to update the BIOS, which prevents me from benefiting from newer features like a resizable bar. It seems the motherboard name was altered by another company that buys used boards, and the Gigabyte software won’t allow updates. Updating the BIOS won’t significantly boost performance, just a minor annoyance for me. The 10700F lacks integrated graphics, I can’t overclock it, and I suspect it won’t improve gaming or graphical tasks. I’ll likely need a new motherboard for an additional M.2 SSD port. Is upgrading to the 11700K worth more than getting a motherboard for the 10700F?
For casual gaming, the 11700K and 10700F offer similar results. Switching between them won't make a noticeable difference. In certain titles, the 10700F might even outperform the 11700K due to design variations. The two have their strengths and weaknesses, but neither clearly dominates in overall performance.
Upgrading to 11700 isn't possible since B460 doesn't work with 11th generation CPUs. It's not a good deal. Hold off until the next month for Alder Lake.
The 11900K is just a binned 11700K - they're basically identical in terms of performance. The 11900K is not worth the money regardless of what you're coming from. It is outrageously overpriced. To quote Gamers Nexus, "If the 11700K is a waste of sand that could've been on the beach, the 11900K is a waste of sand that could've been in swimwear - it's that bad." I'd just wait for Alder Lake at this point. Rocket Lake has nothing to offer you beyond minor improvements. The system you have right now is a good one. The 10700F is a solid CPU and not something you should be rushing to upgrade from in 2021 unless you are finding that it doesn't meet your day-to-day needs. And at the moment, if you did need more CPU power, only AMD could offer you a true upgrade with a 3900X, 3950X, 5900X, or 5950X. Any other non-HEDT CPU is at best an incremental improvement compared to the 10700F.
