I planned to wait for the 12th gen Intel but saw the ddr4 prices at launch were poor. Considering our current situation, I expect prices will rise soon. Higher-end models are likely to drop first, while motherboards and RAM will be in high demand. Early adopters might face some problems. If you manage to secure a good deal on the 10th gen at a local shop or microcenter, it makes sense. I’ll be visiting one in two days. If you’re in the US and need a CPU, just let me know—I can pick one up and ship it to you at no cost.
I understand you're comparing the 10700k with a 5800x440 and wondering if it's a better choice.
You don’t have to invest heavily in a motherboard. The VRM specs match both the 10400f (no power limits) and the 5900x (stock). Intel seems to be falling behind now.
Sure, stock is fine. But what about pushing the clock speed and especially the RAM? And that infinite fabric stuff? It seems like 150 is the bare minimum for a decent 5000 board, 200 or more would be even better… that’s costly. My B350 board costs 60… yeah, well, I was just pointing out it isn’t really a fair comparison when one is significantly pricier.
A few months ago, Microcenter offered those 10700KFs for around $239, and the 10600KFs for $169. Those were excellent offers. Now it's not quite the same.
Sure, I picked up the 10100F for around $79. I wish I had bought more.
