Ethernet performs more slowly than WiFi.
I tried connecting my PS4 using an Ethernet cable with the AV1000 gigabit powerline starter. The WiFi signal in my room was weak, giving only about 250KB per second. When I switched to Ethernet, the speed jumped to roughly 16-25MB per second, which is much better. My PC is about half a meter away and connected via WiFi at around 15-19MB per second, so I wondered if using the same cable without the PS4 would help. Eventually, internet speed dropped to around 5MB per second, which is slower than expected. Can someone explain why this happens? It’s really frustrating. Thanks.
I think the issue might lie with Powerline itself, not just the Ethernet cables your devices are connected to. Powerline performance varies a lot based on your wiring and other electrical devices nearby. This hybrid setup doesn’t provide a solid, consistent connection.
The issue likely stemmed from differences in hardware support or optimization between the platforms.
Initially, your performance is only around 5% of what you pay for. Consider switching the Ethernet cable at both Powerline adapters, though if the cables are faulty they may drop to 10 or 100Mbps. Powerline is known for instability, so it's probable the issue lies there. Because of inconsistent electrical interference in your home wiring, speeds won't remain steady like with a straight Ethernet connection. To confirm, remove the Powerline adapters and test speed directly on the modem/router. If possible, reduce electrical load by turning off appliances like refrigerators, AC units, or lights connected to the circuit and retest.
