Mainly discussed are performance specs: 4.5 Mbps on Ethernet and 5 Mbps on WiFi. WiFi can reach up to 70 Mbps, though real speeds rarely hit 30. Likely the issue is related to home wiring.

How is this cable laid out? Is it a brief plug-in to your router or a lengthy path through the house near power lines and other interference sources? What type of router are you using? Are there any additional switches involved? What kind of network interface card do you have? You’ve missed quite a few details. Usually, a wired setup tends to be more reliable. If not, there might be an issue with the connection, noise pickup, a faulty cable, or driver problems.

It's a long cable connecting the modem to my PC. A driver update made a small improvement, but speed is still lacking. The router is a basic model from my ISP. I suspect the issue might be with the cable itself, since it's been sitting unused for about three years.
